Lights Out: Porsche’s next-generation Formula E fighter has hit the track. The German manufacturer has engaged “full swing” testing of its GEN4 challenger—a 600kW, all-wheel-drive beast that promises the biggest performance leap in the championship’s history. Testing began in November, with the new hardware already logging nearly 1,500km in Spain.
Attack Mode: This isn’t just a power upgrade; it’s an engineering overhaul. Porsche claims a “revolution” with GEN4, introducing significant in-house developments including a new DC/DC converter and brake-by-wire system. With a focus on weight reduction and durability, the new car mirrors the development cycles of Porsche’s road-going sports cars, pushing drivetrain efficiency to over 97%.

- 600 kW Power: A massive 71% boost in Attack Mode output compared to GEN3.
- AWD Traction: Permanent all-wheel drive for “huge power and traction.”
- Efficiency: From battery to wheel, less than 3% energy loss.
- Mileage: 1,472 km completed at Monteblanco and Almería by mid-January.

“I think GEN4 will be a real eye-opener for many people out there. It is really fast and great fun to drive,” says Pascal Wehrlein.
“The GEN4 is a real beast… You could almost say it feels like a different sport,” adds Nico Müller.
“Overall, I believe it is fair to speak of a revolution,” states Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E.
Grid Position: The project kicked off in 2024 during Season 10, utilizing “extreme agile working” to develop the GEN3 Evo and GEN4 in parallel. While physical testing is now underway, a significant portion of development continues in the simulator to maximize the limited track time available before homologation in the autumn.
